If you can't get the installation from a package to work you might want 
to try installing from source. Once you have Apache/mySQL/PHP installed 
all you should have to do is copy the source to your webserver document 
root and then go to something like 
http://yourdomainorip/egroupware/setup in your web browser which will 
start the installation.

You will find that this is a standard way of installing many LAMP 
applications such as blogs, wikis, etc.
