[Cialug] gnome-terminal beep

I recently switched to gnome-terminal as my primary terminal app. I
managed to get it configured to my liking, but there is one annoyance.
When some program wants to beep, the terminal beeps the speaker. I'd
much prefer it flash the terminal window like my old terminal did. Is
there a way to configure that? So far i've not found it anywhere in
gnome-terminal's settings.
Why do i even have this problem? Well, until recently i used
rxvt-unicode as my primary terminal. Unfortunately, it
uses "rxvt-unicode" for the $TERM variable, and on most systems that
terminal is not available in the termcap/terminfo database. Updating
the terminfo database on all the systems i ssh to would be a hassle.
Running rxvt-unicode with a more commonly available $TERM setting (such
as "rxvt") works OK when connecting to other systems, but it has weird
incompatibilities when displaying some characters.
Also, ever since enabling the uim input method on my computer,
rxvt-unicode has been slow to launch. Opening a new terminal window
takes several seconds. Once opened it is fine, but i open new windows
fairly often and the delay is long enough to be annoying. I decided the
easiest solution would be to switch terminal applications. I'm not too
picky about which one i use as long as i can set the colors and font
size and it displays wide characters correctly (specifically, Japanese
characters). So far i like the tabbed feature of gnome-terminal, but
not so much that i wouldn't mind switching to some other terminal that
doesn't have that as long as it could do everything else.
