This article on cars that "look ahead" says that the right
modifications to a regular gas guzzler can make it more fuel efficient
than a hybrid.  The modifications include a "look ahead" feature that
predicts braking and accelerating and smooths it out in order to
preserve gasoline.  A look ahead of seven seconds made the car match
the Toyota Prius in gas mileage.
