Mandriva power pack edition has no problems with my cf/sd cards, usb thumb
drive or ipod. It works with the a,b,g, intel card in my Toshiba just fine.
On the software side of things you might want to try
http://portableapps.com/ I think some one on this list suggested this a
while back. Just for grins and giggles I installed it(under window$) on my
60gb ipod video and it worked. It works ok as long it's a usb 2.0 device. I
don't think you'll be able to do everything you want to do, but give a try
anyway. Hope this helps.

Subject: [Cialug] portable USB app's challenge
Hi Guys, it's been a while, but I use to live in DM and visited many of your
meetings. My job ended and I moved to NM. I've never un-subbed from the
list, since it's so useful.
Anyhow, I have a friend who will be traveling around the world, and using
mostly internet cafe, etc. for most of her communication and photography.
That probably means multiple OS's (Windoze, Nix, Live-CD's, Mac), in use.
I figured using an SD card inserted to a Mobile USB SD/Reader/Writer would
work. I have been using U3 programs, some being cross-platform, (Firefox,
Gimp, NVu, J-album, FileZilla etc).
My question is, how do some of the different NIX's handle USB drives? For
example, one night at a DM-LUG meeting we put Mandrake on my laptop. It's
never been able to see the USB drives (or my wifi nic), so I still spend a
lot of time in 'Doze land. Ubuntu seems to have similar issues too, but
that's another story.
Does anyone have some first-hand knowledge on the above app's working on
different distro's? Or, any thoughts on what to use to clean up, photo's,
put them in to web pages, write about them and upload to wherever, keeping
in mind doing it from a thumb drive via internet cafe's?
She is not very computer savvy, so the KISS principle should be employed
here.
Thanks
Lance
