Can I use vi? =)
I've gotten as far as editing sources.list. I've done what you
suggested and I also added "multiverse" to the end of the universe
lines and the backports lines. On the suggestion of some webpage or
another, I added:
deb http://archive.canonical.com/ubuntu edgy-commercial main
to the top of the file. (Not sure what that gains me, but what the
heck!). Is that about it for what most people go with?
As it stands now, I can't get w32codecs or libdvdcss. Either those
packages were renamed or merged into some other package or, more
likely, I don't have the right repository. The ubuntuguide.org site
recommended adding a .de repository, but I'm guessing I should be wary
about using just any old repository. Another page walks through
downloading the codecs from mplayerhq, and I might just do that. I've
learned that Automatix is to be avoided; what about EasyUbuntu?
So far, getting mplayer is my only frustration with Kubuntu. In
Gentoo, I could just emerge whatever the heck I wanted. There was no
extra step of finding and adding the right Portage tree.
