[Cialug] OT: Tivo

Well, it's been an interesting ride and I'm pretty much done. I've fixed the Hughes HDVR2 with a "Zippered" hard drive. The Zipper ISO image is something you have to build and two of the packages unfortunately cost money (a whopping $30 total). It's pretty cool because I've got Wireless Ethernet Bridge (WET) working which in addition to providing networking to the Tivo unit it also now provides networking to my PS2 (which I play once a month).

I have pretty much everything working I just need to find time to play with it all. It's not Myth but it's not bad.

I've also opted to hack my Tivo box for HMO and TivoWebPlus not to mention a wireless hack that involves using an Linksys WRT54GS (with the help of hyperWRT) as a wireless adapter for my Hughes HDVR2 which will need a usb->ethernet adapter. In short, I think something like this as a topic would be right up our ally given all the hacking involved.

Tivo runs Linux, and some of the upgrade CDs use Linux,
so it does apply somewhat. But yeah, we do need an update on MythTV. It has been a while since we had a presentation. If we could put them together, I think that would be a good presentation.

Now that I'm leaving Des Moines, I'm not sure my opinion counts...

But shouldn't a LUG be presenting on something GPL like MythTV instead of
something closed like Tivo?
