You've got a valid point. At this point in time,
drive failure seems to be the issue. I'm thinking
that hardware raid 1, combined with 2x daily data
backups and a weekly drive image onto a external
drive should minimize my downtime in the event of a
catastrophe.

With hardware RAID it may be easier to recover from
drive failure, but
how easy is it to recover from a controller failure?
If recovery is
difficult, does it matter (i.e., how probable is a
controller failure
versus drive failures)?
