No good deed goes unpunished?

New Keyboard or mouse?  Bad connection.  Time to apt-get update?  Funky
grandma keys (f-lock or junk like that?)

Is keyboard USB based?  Did something else get plugged into the USB bus?
I've had trouble with wacky and/or slow keyboard with different kernel+ USB
device configurations.  Very weird.

Can you log into the system remotely using X/VNC etc and work from there
correctly or check the keyboard preferences?

Just throwin' out some ideas.
