Dude, it was easy until I started breaking out speaker-test, alsactl,
and alsamixer!
I'll be burning knoppmyth tonight, but if anyone else has advice to
offer on ac97 under ubuntu, please do so.

Just try knoppmyth, get it all working, and make notes on the settings
and lsmod to see what is loaded.
By then you may decide you don't get any medals for doing it the hard
way.
