Appreciate the suggestion. I'm partial to Ubuntu because I've got 3
years experience now with Debian / Ubuntu, and am relatively comfortable
with administering from the command line. If Ubuntu + MythTV gives me
the flake, I'll have a copy of knoppmyth at the ready.

BTW, found this last night:

Nintendo Wiimote's been hacked for pc use (WMD for linux, GlovePie for
Windows). In combination with big screen MythTV, whata combination!
And it saves me the headache of not worrying about what to do for a
mouse. Now all I need is wireless keyboard.

You owe it to your sanity (and maybe your family) to check out
knoppmyth.
They make a fantastic distro that installs mythtv for you - and boy how.
After knoppmyth there is only a little bit of tuning to do to get a
great installation going. I think mine has been running about two years
now. I use it everyday. In addition to knoppmyth the knoppmythwiki has
great tuning tips for myth and particularly knoppmyth.

Even if you only use Knoppmyth to experience a nice working config and
to cut your teeth on MythTV before going "whole hog" with a raw install
you will come out ahead.

Also, you can never have enough hard drive with MythTV.

The hauppauge stuff is all well supported these days. Video on Linux
has come a long way in the last 3-4 years.

Ask here if you have more questions.

-Nate

It's been forever since I've had a good chance to brag about something
I've done on linux, but the moons are aligning for giving htpc a shot -
My CRT projector is dimming and the wife wants my computer outta her
office. So I'm upgrading to a DLP projector and moving the computer to
sit near it in the basement.

My computer so far - 768MB RAM, 160GB HDD, 1.5GHz+ AMD, and currently
happily running Ubuntu Edgy. Over the last six hours I've purchased a
Hauppage PVR 150 tuner, an Asus audio card with SPDIF digital coax out,
an HD1000U Mitsubishi projector, and a 35ft HDMI cable (only cost $50 -
check out monoprice.com for affordable cable).

I found a number of sites that cover MythTV for Ubuntu (such as
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/MythTV), and it appears that given my
hardware choices I should be fine for install, but thought I'd post here
since I know there's at least one MythTV user in the LUG.

Any suggestions before I attempt my install this weekend, especially
'things to know' that would save me a couple hours of headache?
