[Cialug] Broadband Internet

Internet Solver uses Qwest's DSL lines to deliver their service, so
you'd still have to pay Qwest. You may want to talk to Qwest to see if
they can actually test your line. I was pre-qualified for 1.5mbit, but
not 7mbit. Once they came and tested, they said they could get me 7.
They just don't want to sell you something that they can't deliver, so
they're being cautious.
As far as Mediacom goes, they're usually pretty fast, but it really
depends on how much the node that you're connected is used. The other
problem is that if your neighbor downloads a ton of stuff over cable,
your cable internet can become turtle-slow.

What do you Des Moines-ians have available for broadband? I just
moved to Des Moines and I'm pretty disappointed so far.
Qwest DSL is $27/256K. 256 is the fastest they can give me! That's
ridiculous!
Mediacom is $45/5M. Now that's a nice speed, and an okay price.
Also, I found some company called "Internet Solver". I'm not sure if
they're business only, but I called them and they were supposed to
call back and never did. Is there anything else? I want at least a
meg and a half down, and I want the price to be appropriate, of
course. I *don't* want television or telephone or DirectTV or shoe
shine service "bundled" with it. I just want Internet.
