[Cialug]linux compatible hardware

No issues at all.. We're running Phaser 7300s (laser) and Phaser 8560s (thermal).
BTW, the Oki C9300 is the same engine as a Phaser 7300, uses almost the same supplies (just have to switch a few pegs), but has a different interface and different motherboard. The C9300 is really a crappy printer (works fine with Linux though.. :-D )
As far as using in a mixed environment, we only have really put the 7300s to the test since they are what is normally used from our kiosks. We've also got a Brother laser printer on the network that is being used from a Linux kiosk - no issues there either.
FWIW, Sharp multifunction copiers/toasters seem to work well with PS or PCL5 and are generally network friendly. Canons, and Ricoh - ugh..

I vaguely remember doing a cost analysis on a large hp network printer
and Xerox laser 6-7 years ago. I remember the Xerox having lower
overall costs. However, I chickened out at the last second and bought
the HP. (No one ever got fired for buying an Hp network printer)
Have you had good luck with the Xerox in a mixed environment? Any
driver/network printing problems?
