[Cialug] crazy cable modem speeds

It's not unheard of. At my friends place in CR, with mediacom, he can
get up to about 1.2MB/sec (1200KB/sec), which works out to nearly
10mbit. Of course, that's when there's nobody home. During the
evenings, his pings soar, and his download speeds grind to a halt. But
I think mediacom has been advertising 8mbit as their current speed for a
while, so they probably just upgraded your node, which would explain
your speed increase.

OK, I'm downloading the feisty DVD image and it's been coming at a
steady rate of 930KB/s (not Kb/s). If I've done my math correctly,
that's over 7Mb/s.
Did mediacom just give us a bandwidth boost? This is nearly double the
rate I'm used to.
