[Cialug] Evolution setup: want just calendar

I'm getting confused about what the calendar feature can do. I created
a personal calendar, saved it in .ics format, and put it up on a web
server. I changed the permissions to 755, because I thought that would
make writeable, instead of being read-only. However, when I specify
that URL as a calendar source in Evolution, it tells me that the
calendar source is read-only. I feel like I'm missing something
obvious, but I've meddled with it for a week and still can't figure it
out.
