[Cialug] Problems with ubuntu 5.10

I've had problems with Firefox memory in the past. It would appear that the
system is 'locked', but in fact it's just running extremely slowly (might be
swapping out to disk).

Try <CTRL><ALT><F2> or <ALT><TAB> to an open terminal. It may take a few
minutes to respond (step away from the computer and read the comics, or some
such). When/if it does, type 'top<ENTER>'. That will show you if there's a
particular problem process which needs to be killed. Kill. You should see
immediate improvement.
