[Cialug] Audio recording under SuSE

I have a need to make an audio recording of me reading a document that is 
quite long.  It will probably end up being close to 30 minutes of reading 
time.  I need this audio recording to end up on a CD in a format that can be 
played on an ordinary CD player, like one in an automobile.

It would be nice to be able to pause the recording like I could if I was doing 
this using a tape recorder.  

Having not done this exact task before, does anyone have an tips, hints, 
thoughts, suggestions, recommendations?  All will be appreciated.
