Should work without the nforce drivers... have you tried updating your 
nVidia Xwindows driver?

I'm running Mandriva 2006 with a nVidia 6800 GT in my PC, and a ti4200 
Go in my laptop, both work fine. The desktop has the nforce chipset, the 
laptop does not.
