You know, I think you're both right, to a point.  This exchange
isn't an *exact* fit to the one that prompted this:

but I think Don Marti's point is appropriate here, in that
a diversity of approaches is called for, depending on the
audience and purpose.

Were this a letters-to-the-editor page or site for political
stumping, I think Claus would be closer to the mark.  And, given
that this is a publically-archived list, I think his cautions
are still somewhat relevant.  

But, largely, this is a list by and for geeks.  The urge to
point and laugh a bit at how clumsily the honorable gentleman
from Alaska is dancing to the tune of his paymaster, is . . .
well, at least a little understandable.
