Can anyone recommend a good 4 port serial card for linux?
It will be running under OpenSUSE if that makes any difference in what you
recommend. I haven't looked at these things in a while and I am hoping
that someone on the list has.

A quick search on google turned up the following card that appears to
support just about everything, but I'm not sure how much pain and
suffering will be needed to get it to work

Some of the manufacturers have pretty good Linux support. Stallion, Digi
and rocketport.

You don't say what kind of machine you are using or what your application
is, but a serial-to-USB adapter may a possibility too.

I've had past experience with Digi, and they've been good cards. My
experience is 14 years out of date, but wanted to add my 2 cents
worth.

Sorry, left out some specs...the machine is an IBM x306 which comes with
1 serial port standard. This server's main task in life is to be a
launching point to connect to just about any subnet on our network. So
there are a lot of tools in place for network testing. There are also
some dial out tests which require modems. So the serial card will have a
modem hanging off of each port. The current box that the 306 will replace
is a 3U box which is 5-6 years old and needs to be retired. The 306 is a
1U box so moving the existing serial cards over will not give us the
capacity that we need.

I have used PCI cards that have multiple modems on them before.

In fact, I have a 4 port rocketmodem card that is not in use.

If it suits your purpose perhaps we could come to an arrangement.

I may be interested in the card. I have to wait for the powers that be
to come back from holiday vacation before making a decision. But the card
should clean up a lot of the extra cabling that is currently clogging up
the bottom of the rack.

but your 1992 2c is 3c in 2005, so it's more (but it buys less)

So, any suggestions on where in the Des Moines (or Newton or Pella)
area I can dispose of two dead CRTs and two questionable TVs tomorrow
or Sunday?
