I have been using Curier for a long time now, for MTA, MDA, and IMAPS 
and it rocks. In the beginning I used passwd for my users, but several 
years ago I switches to a setup where all mail users are virtual in 
LDAP. If you use the Courier suite of programs, you get filtering and 
webmail built in right there.
