Try a different power connector, and make sure the power connector is truly
connected. I've had some drives that were a bear to get the power connector
into.

Subject: [Cialug] barebones system
I purchased a brand new "barebones" system with an Athlon 3000+ XP, RAM and
a CD drive. Upon receipt I found that the CD drive was not connected to
power or the motherboard. The cables were provided so I plugged it in and
intended to boot a knoppix disk as a first test. I could not get the CD
drive to do anything. No blinking, no eject, nothing. So I installed a
20GB drive which already has Ubuntu 5.04 on it, and it booted OK from that.
Still nothing from the CD drive though. I've verified the power lead is
live. Anyone have a suggestion on what to do? The ribbon cable for the CD
drive seemed to fit into the motherboard in just one spot, so there's no
choices there... but I admit I have no docs on the board, drive, etc... So
basically, if a CD drive has power, but does not blink and won't eject the
tray, is it certifiably DOA? Time to call the vendor?
Thanks,
Kendall
