Which processors fall within the classification of i686-class?

Does the PIII count?  Xeon?  Which AMD chips would count?  Athlon?

I'm sorry, I thought I had this straight, the more I read on this issue the
more confused I become.

Also, thanks to Dave for the great intro to CVS.  It really cleared up some
mysteries for me.
