I agree, that our corporate controlled government is out of control on 
most fronts.  However, this is a different case.  You are talking about 
Socialism, creating an unfair marketplace where the controlling entity 
is the government.  You would really just be trading your teleco for 
your local government.  The telcos are only protecting their 
shareholders via the democratic process (i.e. lobbying).  Having your 
government socialize a service tends to limit consumer choice.

The telco space isn't the most open market we have available, but at 
least you have, where a competitive environment exists, options.
