[Cialug] OT: Name Servers

I have a coworker who purchased a virtual server and domain through a 
hosting company. They automatically set the name servers to theirs but 
the servers are not forwarding to any IP. They sent him an email saying 
that he can change that himself on his virtual server. Does this make 
since to anyone? Since when does a host give you the ability to change 
their name server records?
