While we're gloating ;-) I'll just say this is what's nice about
distros that lean a little more towards supporting minimal
installs. The downside is that you then have to piecemeal stuff
onto the box sometimes (witness my once-Ubuntu laptop that is
now running Debian sarge, but without several features that it
had with Ubuntu).

I'll jump on that bandwagon, too. they don't seem to make
CD-ROM drives like they used to. Maybe this is a good time and
place to put in a plug for my free-for-the-taking (mind you, I'm
in Ames) HP Vectra pizza box style systems, one with a 166MHz
Pentium and one with a 200MHz Pentium, but both with working
CD-ROM drives, I think ;-)
