I realize sometimes this is the last resort to recover files... but with 
very few exceptions, computers aren't made to operate this way. Even on 
ext2, or fat32, recovery of deleted files is really arbitrary - you 
don't know what files have been stepped on, and which ones are OK. The 
bigger the file, and the more fragmented your partition is, the less 
likely your file will be intact.

IMHO reiserfs gives enough performance and filesystem recovery (not 
deleted file recovery) benefits over ext3 to make it worth it.
