Wow Matthew, as usual, great info for the list. I check it out, and
this guy has some great tutorials and info to share. There are other
great Youtube tutorials on film making/video techniques that are
general in nature and very helpful. It's addictive.

My best advice - a compelling story or information, or entertaining
content. When I made my little movie for the rockhounds (Des Moines
Lapidary Society) it was well received in spite of imperfections,
because it was what my audience wanted to see. (And they are nice
folks who appreciate any effort to share or entertain.)

And, digital is great because the film costs are low! So shoot lots
and use the best of what you get. Have fun!
Now that I have the time and interest I would like to delve
into iMovie with both feet. What I hope to do is make 8-10
minute movies of our travels and grand kids utilizing video
files, iPhotos and my iTunes library, I know it is time
consuming to say the least but that's what I have the most of,
especially in January and February.

I remember that Holly taught classes at her school so I know
she's a great resource and I might try and work with her at
some point. But here is what I would like from the rest of
you, are there any week long type classes offered anywhere or
is there a community college out there that might offer a film
class specific to iMovie? Or is there a self taught course
that is available? I have not taken the time to look for
books yet as my wife and I were just talking about this
project this weekend and I thought to myself, what better
group than the DMMUG to pose these questions to?

Thanks in advance for any insights you may have or suggestions
on how to proceed.

In iMovie I think you can go to the help menu and there is
an entry you can click to watch some Video Tutorials. They
cover the basics pretty well if I remember correctly.

I'm frequently amazed at the number of high quality video
tutorials are available on youtube. After you take the basic
tutorials if you have a specific topic you'd like to learn
more about you could try searching there.
