<div><br></div><div>Then I opened the file and drug the Audacity icon to my applications folder. Then I ran it and recorded a short note. I tried to save it as an MP3 file and got an error that I needed to install LAME. So I went to this page:</div>

I double clicked this file and it asked me to install it. I just accepted all the defaults and clicking next and finally the "install" button. It asked me for my system password then installed.</div>
<div><br></div><div>In Audacity I clicked the "Audacity" menu, then preferences to see a window of options. I clicked "LIbraries" on the left side and in the top section chose MP3 library: Locate...</div>
<div><br></div><div>It opened a window and I just hit OK. The window closed and then above the "locate" button I'd clicked it said MP3 Library Version: LAME 3.98.2</div><div><br></div><div>I clicked "OK" to get out of preferences and then I clicked export, gave a name and chose MP3 Files as the format. This time everything worked.</div>
<div><br></div><div>If this doesn't work for you just export the file in FLAC or WAV format. Both of these are higher quality than MP3 (though this is more theoretical than practical). FLAC is slightly bigger to e-mail than MP3 and may require a plugin to listen to (the free program VLC can play it perfectly on any computer). WAV can be bigger yet but pretty much every computer can play it and you can zip the files to make them smaller.</div>
