Sorry to be the bearer of bad news again, but not all Sony Digital8s will do this. The 5xx series will not. In fact, I had to buy a model a few years ago off of ebay because the new one does not do Hi8 to DV conversion, although it will do analog inputs to dv output, and it plays Hi8 tapes.<div>

I forgot to mention that you can use any DV camera that has analog<br>
inputs to do the conversion. As I said, S-video is better but<br>
composite will also work. This will allow you to import your hi-8<br>
directly into imovie or whatever video software you want to use.<br>

As Jon pointed out, there are more recent sony models you can use. I<br>
didn't mean to say this was the only digital 8 model. Any Sony<br>
digital 8 will work. I know other manufactures made digital 8's also<br>
but I don't think they play hi-8. Stick with Sony if your purchasing<br>
digital 8 camera or player.<br>
