<div>It could be a Mediacom hardware problem. I had a situation once or twice where my cable connection was getting noisy and this impacted speed - the noise beyond a certain level caused too may transmission errors. They had to send someone out to fix it. Don't know if it was the box on our unit, or a neighborhood routing box or whatever. Another sign of the problem was that my cable TV connection was getting "snowy". </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Not sure what cable modem you have, but mine is a "Motorola Surfboard". I have some notes on the last time I had a problem.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>If you have a Moto Surfboard, try what they told me to do: Direct your web browser to <a href="http://192.168.100.1/">http://192.168.100.1/</a> This is the cable modem's configuration and status screen. </div>
<div> </div>
<div>I was told to click the "Signal" tab and that the signal-to-noise ratio should be in the high 30's or above. 20's is bad. </div>
<div>
<div> </div>
<div>Another time it was just my cable modem going bad. They replaced it. </div></div>

<div>What could be reasons for it taking 'forever' for a page [more than one, really] to load in Safari or Firefox. I have mchsi at 7633kbpsdown/482kpbs up and that's [I think] the fastest it goes. But I have noticed over the past 2 or so days that loading pages in these browsers is taking even more time than usual - at first I thought it was the DNS problem & fixed that but loading sites is slower than I am used to or remember it being not that long ago.<br>

<div>I did run Activity Monitor and checked the info there and all seems fine - I'm running MacPro OSX.5.4 and latest Safari and Firefox, not too many apps open, plenty of RAM...Belkin NWireless Router [tho this comptuer is wired, not wireless]</div>
<div><br>what else should I be checking for? I have unplugged all connections and restarted several times.</div>
<div>[it just took 15 sec. in Firefox to load Apple's site, 20 sec. for Amazon - and in both Safari and Firefox I get one of those colored spinning beachballs if I try to close out of the browser...</div><pre>--
