You want it to use HDMI if you have it. All HDMI TVs are digital
(although not all digital TVs have HDMI.)

HDMI is entirely digital. Anything else has an analog component in
the middle. I've listed the entire video paths for each connection,
illustrating the changes in format. I have omitted a couple steps
that don't need to be illustrated.

Camera(analog)->Encoder(Digital)->TV->HDMI->TV->Your Eyes(analog)
Camera(analog)->Encoder(Digital)->TV->Composite/Component(ANALOG)-
 >TV(Digital)->Your Eyes(analog)

Putting that analog component in reduces the quality slightly.

3 cable (red, white, and yellow) meaning two audio ports and a video
is called "composite." 3 cable (red, green, blue)meaning that they
don't count the audio is called "component." Component is much better
than composite.
