You can also use Audacity for audio editing but the protected MP4 is going to be a problem.  One solution is to record it while it's playing.  Kind of strange but I've done it before (I've taken the audio off some video running on my computer so I could listen to it for private use), not that I would recommend doing anything illegal.  Also look into MP3 Trimmer.

I need to take 3 different songs, have them play then fade out into 
the next and end == all will be total 10 min.  Is this something 
better accomplished in iMovie or in Grarageband or iTunes == I could 
bring in 2 of them but the 3rd is protected so I couldn't join it 
with the other two = am making a 10 or so minute presentation via 
keynote and the music is to go along with it
