My mistake. I'd forgotten that they dropped Classic support in
10.5(Leopard). I probably forgot because I haven't cared about
Classic in about
3-4 years.... But if you have 10.0 thru 10.4 (Tiger) and are running a
PowerPC chip then you can run most Classic apps inside OS X, you just need
to install Mac OS 9.
The only reason you need a Mac emulator like SheepShaver or Basilik or
PearPC or vMac is if:
- You're running an Intel mac
- or you're under 10.5 (Intel or PowerPC)
- or you have some really old Mac OS 9 or earlier app that won't work right
under Classic.
- or you're not running on a Mac at all (which is why Basilik and
SheepShaver and such were mostly created).
>From the earlier part of the conversation it sounded like people were saying
you needed SheepShaver to run Classic apps on PowerPC. Not true; only under
10.5 would you need that.
