[DM-MUG] Old MacAddicts and questions

I've got a stack of old MacAddicts from the start of the magazine until the 
early 2000.   Is anybody interested in them.   Going for free or going into the 
recycling bin.

I have a question our Mac.   I've noticed some peculiarities about the Mac 
system as it is.   
1. Sometimes, the icon previews don't seem to get made for some pictures so 
they end up as a blank preview icon.   Not very helpful if your looking quickly 
in a folder for pictures.   Is the a way to get those previews to work?
2. Is there a faster way to get a picture you like to be on your desktop 
besides having to go through the preferences? On that subject, I've set the 
background picture to change to a random picture daily but it doesn't actually 
change unless I do it manually.
3. Does anyone know of a very cheap but nice graphics editor.   I used to use 
Photoshop light or some other software that came with my scanner but the 
software I have currently either doesn't work with the Intel Machine or doesn't 
really go beyond the basics when it comes to fixing photos.
4. I have noticed that my Mac never seems to really go to sleep by it's self. 
  The screen turns off and the hard drive shuts down but the fan continues to 
keep going until I manually make it go to sleep.   Is there a fix for this or 
is it supposed to do this.
