[DM-MUG] iPHone sighting in Beijing

They are not in Asia yet. I've read that many/most iPhone's are being
bought and unlocked for use with carriers other than AT&T and for sale
elsewhere.
You lose things like Visual Voice Mail when you do that because only
AT&T knows how to supports that.
Or he could have just been roaming on a iPhone locked to AT&T and will
be in for a schocker of a bill, as has happened to folks when
traveling overseas with an iPhone.
Also, Apple made some changes in the recent iPhone software update
1.1.1 so that people can turn off more of the phone's usage of the
cell radio to prevent large bills outside the normal coverage area.
Apple's update also disabled any phone that was unlocked. Lawsuits
have started about that last bit! I hope Apple loses, frankly.
