Unless you will need to access the drive from a Windows system
(unfortunately, many of us do need that functionality), you should
definitely reformat the drive to HFS+.

If you do need to use it under both Windows and Mac, you have a few
choices.  A cursory search on google shows it is easier to access HFS+
volumes under Windows than it is to access NTFS (the best native
Windows file system for large files) on a Mac.

FAT32 is the lowest common denominator, so that's why most drives are
pre-formatted with it.  Mac, Linux and WIndows can access it, but it
has some serious limitations.
