Dear Friends,

I have been enjoying being a member of this group and have appreciated your
help. I tried your suggestions and here is what has worked for me.

The smc fan control download works just great when I set it at about 2,000
rpm. At first I thought it was too noisy but that was only because it was
initially cooling the computer down. Once the computer became cool, the fan
is mostly transparent. It doesn¹t get noisy until the computer gets really
hot and the fan runs closer to 4,000 rpm. Most of the time its now very
lovely quiet.

I also tried using an xpad (xpad4laptop.com) $30 with shipping and it did
help. The site claims they help to bring temperatures down as much as 30
degrees. I certainly didn¹t see that much change but it worked better than
resting it only on the 1/4 inch wood board I had been using as a portable
desk.

The best solution however, I learned by accident. Because I¹m disabled and
can¹t sit at a desk, I bought an air desk ($200 counting shipping costs at
airdesk.com)-- a laptop desk that ³floats² the computer on an adjustable
plexiglass shelf. At first I was afraid that the plexiglass would stop heat
dissipation but, amazingly, from the time I put the computer on it (first
with the x-pad then directly onto the plexiglass) the heat nosedived. It
might be an expensive fix to get one just to eliminate the heat problem, but
this desk is so ³cool² and so adjustable in all directions that I think
anyone would like it.

Even when internal temps are high, the computer feels much cooler and
comfortable to touch.

Thanks again for your help.

Roses
