That's what he's referring to as QT Pro. That's what it's called.
Also, for years, they have only charged the upgrade cost between big
numbers.
ie: 5->6, 6->7
and they go several years between big versions.
So, yes, if you are actually using "Pro" features (I do find it
annoying that full screen is a "pro" feature). Then you'd probably
want to upgrade to 7 "Pro" but if you just want the new codecs (h264
is well worth it) and you aren't really using the Pro version's
features already, it IS a free upgrade. 7 is also less annoying about
nagging for Pro upgrades than 6 was.
Disclaimer: This has worked for me in the past, but I wouldn't risk a
workflow or critical machine on it. Use it at your own risk.
Another "secret" is, you can save a copy of your current QT Pro
player with another name before upgrading and still use it with the
new version of QT. You won't continue to get some of the OS level pro
features (like saving Movies from websites, etc.). It should still
work with the new version of QT (so at least you can watch H264
movies in full screen).
