[DM-MUG] Why use Macs Q & A

I'd agree with those. I'd also add:

1-A computer is hardware plus software. If you get a computer at a BestBuy or Dell (ie:Windows boxes), you can only run Windows and Linux natively. With a Mac, you can run MacOS, Windows, and Linux natively. Why buy a computer that will run less when you can have one that can run more. For the first time in a long time, Apple computers have more software available to them then any other platform. Got a Windows app? No problem! Fire up your Mac. Got a Unix script? No problem, fire up your Mac. Got a Linux app, go native.

2-Workflow productivity. Apple computers come bundled with software that lets you easily create your own workflows if it be by an expansive array of easy hotkeys, applescripting, GUI tools like Automator, shell scripts, drop-box folders and on and on. Other computer/OS packages either have less, or it's harder to do. On a Mac, your productivity will soar, shaving off hours of effort each day.

3-You have more control. Ever launch an application you didn't want to? You can right click a launching app's icon and stop it right there. On Windows, it's a half dozen steps including 3 finger hotkeys, your desktop first hiding from view for you to click something, then coming back with a list, then you may have to sort it alphabetically, then you have to tell it to stop the software from launching, and if the stopping takes too long, Windows thinks the app has launched and froze after it launched, and will then ask you again if you want to end the program. ARGH! I'll take the simple "right click on bouncy picture" approach to undoing my launch mistakes thanks.

4-You'll feel like you've been lied to all the years you didn't use a Mac. What I mean is that after years of mediocrity, crashes, confusing dialogs, a constant barrage of popups, security threats, Windows update reminders in the middle of a presentation and so on, you'll find that computers can actually be good looking, fun, well behaved, and make you think of lighting a candle to celebrate the serenity.

5-Community. With a Mac you are warmly received by soon-to-be friends who can't wait to make sure you're having a good and productive time with your machine (somehow it never feels like work). When's the last time somebody brought you a bottle of wine, just for getting a new computer, and wants to share it with you while you take it out of the box? ;) Say cheese! *click*

At least, that's been my experience. When I got my first Mac in 2000 and wrote Apple Canada to say, "hey, that welcome movie when I first turned on my iMac was REALLY impressive! You guys so got this out of box thing figured out!", they sent me a free t-shirt. W-O-W.
