[DM-MUG] Transferring OS 9 documents to OSX

If the resource fork is lost and you have a document with just a name that looks like "my document" and not "my document.doc", you can probably tell OS X what program to use to open it by typing a 3 character extension to the file name. Do you know what application was used to create those documents?
