[DM-MUG] iPhoto 08 export dialog problem (continued)

Besides the iPhoto export issue and iWeb still being Archivally
challenged, my biggest complaint is the Events interface they've
added to iPhoto. Since it replaces rolls, and rolls is what plugging
in your camera and importing creates, along with dragging and
dropping from the hard drive, or right clicking on images in Safari
and choosing 'add to iPhoto', or doing similarly with email
attachments, single photo imports break the concept. Any time I add
one photo, like an attachment from an e-mail, I HAVE to merge it with
another event (like "Miscellaneous") MANUALLY if I want to avoid
getting stuck with dozens to hundreds of events containing one photo,
with event names being dates. If I get 3 emails with single picture
attachments, unrelated to each other, I then have 3 merge operations
to do. It's a real pain in the.....
Since I have my events date sorted, new events go at the top, and the
Miscellaneous event I've created goes as far down as the earliest
date in its list of photos. If I happen to add an image that has an
older date on it from a hard drive drag n drop let's say, the Misc
folder's location can jump from where it was for weeks before, to
somewhere new, causing me to then go scrolling and scrolling looking
for the darn thing. I could add the step of visiting the view menu
and sort by event title, but even then, I'm still scrolling looking
for letter M starting events.
So, I'm giving up on Events/Rolls and just using keywords. This also
alleviates my dependency on albums. When I import photos, I'll endure
the overhead of adding keywords at the beginning, so that there's
nothing to sort/scroll/merge/event'ize/album'ize later.
Events are great if you're using a camera that's always going to
import a bunch of photos, and you don't add images from hard disk,
Safari or Mail. I think to get the best use out of Events, you have
to resist the urge to import photos off your camera too quickly. You
should fill it up a little, import a bunch, and then use the much
easier Split function which is quick and painless compared to doing
merge-event management.

So glad to have you all telling us about these issues! I just bought
'08, and now I think I'll wait before I install it! Keep us posted on
what is happening!! Thanks Darcy for your commentary, too!
