Hi everybody, Here are the sect. notes from last nights meeting.
Victoria brought the meeting to order and started the tips segment
with the following:
1. Silverkeeper: a backup program from LaCie --provided with
their drives. Simple program.
2. WhatSize: shows the size of folders and files.
3. Quicksilver: <http://quicksilver.blacktree.com> Locate and
launch programs and files.
Russ Carlson sent a URL for MacJanitor--
<http://personalpages.tds.net/~brian_hill/macjanitor.html>.
This is one of a number of programs which will run the daily, weekly
and monthly maintenance scripts in OS 10 if you do not have your MAC
running at the time of the scheduled running of the scripts by the
OS. I believe that this is addressed in 10.4.9 so that they run when
the machine is rebooted.
Ray Bowler pointed out a way to enlarge the image on the screen:
System Preferences > Keyboartd and Mouse > Mouse -- at the
bottom a check mark for
"Zoom using scroll wheel while holding 'Control'". The
options button allows you to set the way the cursor moves the image.
A caution (if I understand this correctly} on an external drive
having both USB and Firewire ports do not plug both in at once and
turn the drive on. It fries the Firewire port on the computer.
CW Smith then gave a presentation of how to transfer music from LPs
to CDs. The presentation will be posted on the website soon. Input
using iMic or a USB turntable, use Audacity (freeware) to edit it and
then iTunes and then burn to CD.
There were several quick questions brought up for discussion.
We should note that the person traveling furthest for the meeting is
C. Darlene Reger from Harns, MO. And I thought getting to the meeting
from Calisle was long.
Meeting adjourned at 8:30.
Thanks to CW Smith for the presentation and Haddock for the space and
cookies and pop.
Feel free to post any corrections and additions.
