[DM-MUG] Ruminations....

The present group of officers is very knowledgeable and personable.
I'm not sure the titles really matter much... the main thing is just
showing up on those meeting nights (which is tough given we're all
tugged in so many directions). There are obviously a lot of people
who get what they need from DMMUG through the email group -- maybe
the physical meeting will never amount to more than a cadre.

A better web site would be nice, but I'm not sure it how important it
is. You may be correct that there is a subset of the Mac community
that doesn't want to subscribe to this email group who might come to
more meetings if "what we do" was better illustrated with pictures
and text. I don't really see how the group would be served by
switching to a .Mac account, assuming our current cost is nil.

My impression is that The Apple Store isn't too interested in
supporting DMMUG, because they want the Genius Bar to be the center
of the local Mac community. It's also somewhat awkward to advertise
meetings held at a rival place of business. A neutral meeting site,
such as a library or school, would be a likely prerequisite for
expanding the group through support from Jordan Creek and Comp USA.
What's been great about the Haddock site is that we get another Mac
guru (Alan) to attend that way. That said, the lion's share of Mac
traffic flows through Jordan Creek, so that would be the place to try
and advertise the group.

We've just begun an interesting experiment to open up the
presentations to a wider group. Topic choice is always a problem,
because there are few tasks that all of us are going to be interested
in. What gives me confidence that the new meeting format will work
well is the idea that Bryan and company will be there, ready to step
forward and guide the discussion.
