I have occasion to access old MacDraw documents to view and
print. I am still using MacDraw 1.9.5 with OS 9.1. It works
fine with one caveat. This old version of MacDraw keeps
track of fonts by the order that they were loaded in the
system. If I move the app to a newer Mac with different
fonts it will reorder the fonts because they were loaded
into the system a different order. I believe Apple fixed
this in MacDraw Pro. If you upgrade your 8.6 system to OS9.x
then you should have no problem. However if you do a clean
install or move to another Mac then you may experience this
issue.

Personally I like to keep an older Mac on my network to run
classic software to avoid these type of issues. If you are
running OS9 or better then you can still access the files
from OSX Tiger as long as you check the box in the "File
Sharing" control panel to Enable access using TCP/IP. This
is a good reason to upgrade to OS9.x on your 8500.

Feel free to e-mail me if you have further questions.
