You guys are great....I went in to double check all cables and
connections. I had been assuming that by using Airport on the iMac
[which spoke to my Airport which was then linked to the router] that
would suffice = it was fine to get on the internet, but not to talk
to the printer itself.
I went back, checked the Network settings and I had Ethernet and
Airport enabled but also, both were selected for AppleTalk too =
after checking everything, I unchecked Airport as an Appletalk method
and all of a sudden, the ethernet Appletalk was active and the
printer showed up. Sounds like having Appletalk enabled on two
methods creates a conflict.
I had been hoping to get rid of cables, but this is an old enough
printer [not bluetooth or wifi] that it needs Ethernet....
I then checked and saw I could 'see' my G5 on the network, I did a
test print to the Lexmark and although it seemed to take forever
[sending data went on for a minute or so] it DID print....
I suppose it was the ethernet appletalk thing...I'd like to cut down
on cables but apparently that won't work right now. Thanks again for
the help in troubleshooting this!
