I swear by my Griffin iMic adapters. I've got three of them: one for
each of my iBooks and a third I keep in my laptop bag. Not a lot of
bells and whistles, but a very quick, simple connection.
The program I use to import and edit the audio is Audacity, available
at audacity.sourceforge.net. It's a free program, and there are
versions for Windows, Linux, Mac OS X and even Mac OS 9 (although
you'll have to dig a little for that one). Simple to use, free, and
cross-platform compatible. What could be better?
Of course you could spend a lot more on audio software -- my main
audio program is Digital Performer, which retails for about $800. But
Audacity will work quite nicely for vinyl transfers.
Good luck, Ray!
Peace,
CW
