[DM-MUG] DVD±R vs. RW designation

Has anyone else noticed recently that (what I thought was) the RW  
designation icon has been added to just about all DVD±R discs sold  
now? I've seen it on Verbatim & Imation. I thought RW stood for Re- 
Write, as in multiple write capability. Did I miss a memo or is this  
just one more way to confuse us as consumers?

sku=2703052>. Look in the lower left of the image for a black icon.

Clearly it's not a true RW disc as that is a separate product:
