I recently had to burn a CD for a windows machine as well and went to  
all the trouble to make a disk image with the right format and  
everything. I also burned a disk straight from the Finder and was  
pleased to find that this works fine. So, burning from the finder  
(and not using Disk Utility or worrying about formats) seems the easy  
way to go.

Since your file is an MS Word file, I'll also mention a nifty little  
web site that I ran across yesterday. www.thinkfree.com
This site lets you create, open, and edit MS Office files from a web  
page. It's free and includes 30MB of storage for your files.
