Here's his description: "About the iBook. It is all boxed up in the original box. It is an iBook special edition. It has the clam shell design. It is graphite in color. It has a PPC 466Mhz processor, with 192 MB of DRAM (64 on board, with 128 SODIM). It is in good condition. There are no bad pixels or scratches or anything like that on the LCD screen. It has the original box with the original CD's, and the cord to hook to video/audio. It also has a clam shell carrying case, although it is the lime color, and not the graphite." RAM vendors had to make sure their memory met certain requirements and Apple was merely checking for that (even if it worked fine not meeting those requirements). There were patches on the 'net you could use to "reprogram" certain RAM, sorta, to be recognized, and most RAM vendors at the time started making sure their RAM read properly for Apples. I don't remember many details, but I'm surprised you'd find RAM today that was not recognized. I do know, at the time, a big stink was raised 'cause systems that worked fine suddenly did not recognize RAM after the update. A net search should lead to a few pages that were made back then dealing with how you could upgrade RAM to be recognized. Sorry I don't recall specifics. I do remember dealing with this before I ordered RAM for one of my systems back then. Victoria,

Let me introduce myself.  I'm from Des Moines and have worked on supporting this effort in Iowa.  I'd be happy to meet with you or chat with you at your convenience.  We have three account executives in Iowa and a few other people (the higher education account executive in Des Moines is Stan Ethington and the K-20 account executive is Ed Cranston, Iowa City).

Thanks for your interest.

I didn't know who else to direct this to, so am doing so to you in the hope that someone in Apple Marketing or Education can take the ball and run with it.

Today's Des Moines Register reported that a business task force has suggested putting laptops in schools and letting the kids take them home.

That would have been wonderful 10 years ago but over the years there has been a steady erosion in use of Apples/Macs in the DM public schools such that now they're almost hostile to them (they've been steadily replacing the Macs with Dells).  The same is true of our hometown university, Drake University, as well, by the way.

We Mac users keep fighting but it's an uphill battle.  But if Apple Marketing or Education were to find out who to work with maybe this can be a win win thing.

Thank you.
