But have you seen how long after a release at php.net before it shows up in your update repository? Not to mention we compile all sorts of crazy options into the build. I suppose you could get away with a vendor supplied source RPM. Once you get away from using the RPMs for your particular version of RHEL you separate yourself from vendor provided security patches and updates.<br>
<br>In my experience, going to a new version of PHP on a RH based system usually means updating a ton of the other RPMs (db4, database, xml, etc) so you end up with a system that has diverged greatly from the one supported by the vendor. And if you're not going to get support from the vendor, then why pay the $$ for RHEL?<br>
